How much money does a typical family need to live in the City of Buenos Aires?

A report revealed how much daily and monthly money a family of four required to live in the City of Buenos Aires in March. The report monitored price developments.

A type family needed, in March, $361,001.4 (on average, they required $12,033.38 per day) to cover all their expenses in the City of Buenos Aires, according to the survey carried out by the Consumer Services and Counseling Education Center (CESyAC).

The job keeps track of the prices of the food basket and serviceswhich includes, among various items, the rental of a home, the cost of a 10-year-old car, the subscription for prepaid medicine, the fee for a private school for two children and the family subscription to a club.

Of that amount, $262,515.7 (72%) were used to hire the basic services for the home, while $98,485.7 (28%) were to acquire mass consumption products. Meanwhile, inflation in March was in the order of 4.16% while the year-on-year price variation was 75.3%.

The biggest price increases

The most relevant increases in the category of mass consumption products were in meats (6.95%) and packaged groceries (2.62%). Regarding basic services, the most resonant increases were registered in the subway (38%)cab (30%)college fees (16.8%) and prepaid medicine (7.66%).

There were no increases in the 18,000 Fair Price products included in the sample basket. Meanwhile, in a year-on-year comparison, skyrocketing increases have been detected in the same product as in the kilo of squash, which became more expensive 252.86% (it cost $64.65 in April 2022 and currently worth $228.12). Meanwhile, the kilo of oranges went from $138.78 to $450.57which represents a variation of 224.67% in a year.

The hair conditioner was worth $185.72 a year ago, whereas now it is $588.79 (217.04% more expensive).

Thus, the Buenos Aires middle class found it increasingly difficult to sustain the level of consumption.
