For two years, Deutsche Bahn has waived bonus payments for the board. Now variable remuneration should flow again. The supervisory board wants to make this a topic at a special meeting.
The supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn is currently looking for a date for a special meeting at the end of April – the topic should also be the performance-related remuneration for the board of directors. However, it is still unclear whether and when the meeting will take place, according to supervisory board circles on Friday. The “Spiegel” had previously reported about it. Accordingly, the meeting should deal with the question of whether the railway managers will receive remuneration in the millions for the past year.
What the group board members receive each year is stated in the respective annual report. In 2020 and 2021, the Management Board had waived the so-called variable remuneration, which is paid in addition to the basic salary depending on certain performance characteristics. They are planned again for 2022. According to the annual report, Bahn boss Richard Lutz will receive variable remuneration of EUR 1.26 million in addition to his basic salary of almost EUR 970,000.
The supervisory board must approve the payments. So far there has been no decision on this, it said on Friday from circles of the committee. If the special session actually took place at the end of April, it would fall within the period of the next round of collective bargaining with the railway and transport union (EVG). The union is currently arguing with the railways about more money for around 180,000 group employees.
