The prices of the agrifood in March they increased 3.7 times from the field to the gondola, according to the Origin and Destination Price Index (IPOD) prepared monthly by the Regional Economies sector of the Argentine Confederation of Medium-sized Enterprises (CAME).
From the business union entity they indicated that “the `drought effect` began to be felt on the daily table of Argentine consumers, who paid $3.7 for every $1 that producers received.” Regarding the participation of the producer, on average it explained 28.3 percent of the final sale prices.

Chicken producers had the highest participation (67.4 percent), while onion producers had the lowest (6.3 percent).
The gap in fruit and vegetable products and in livestock farmers The fruit and vegetable IPOD, made up of 19 fruits and vegetables, showed that prices multiplied by 5.9 times in March, 51.2 percent more than in February 2023, an increase explained , largely, for products such as lettuce, round tomato, pepper, broccoli and chard.
The livestock IPOD, for its part, made up of the five products and by-products, revealed that the consumer paid 2.9 times more than what the producer received, the same as the previous month.
Onion (15.9 times), lemon (14.6), pumpkin (10.6), orange (6.5) and tangerine (6.1), were the 5 products that showed the greatest difference between origin and destination prices.
Among the products that presented the smallest difference between the price received by the producer and the one paid by the consumer, there are two products of animal origin (chicken, 1.5 times; and eggs, 1.9 times) and three horticultural products ( tomato, 2.4 times; red pepper, 2.2 times; and lettuce, 1.6 times).
