September’s rolled production was 402,000 tons, 2% lower than August, when it had reached 410,300 tons.

The study highlighted that the demand for steel “remains stable for the different sectors of the economy” and noted that during September there were technical shutdowns at some facilities.

“Dispatches to the construction sector remain sustained”, stressed.

The entity pointed out that the demand is also sustained because “the automotive sector has a good level of activity, showing a growth of 13.5% in the production of vehicles in September compared to August”

The study adds that the export of steel pipes also continues to recover strongly, reaching volumes similar to those prior to the pandemic during September. “

In addition, “the demand from the manufacturers of household appliances continues to be sustained, and without variations in the manufacturers of tinplate containers”, among other reasons for the recovery of the steel industry.

The production of primary iron was 333,500 tons, 5.8% higher than that of August, which reached 315,200 and grew 70.6% in the year-on-year comparison.

In hot rolled products, production reached 402,000 tons in September, 2% lower than in August and 24.4% higher than in September 2020.

Cold rolled flats production in September reached 96,700 tons, 17.2% less than in August, and registered a 14.6% year-on-year increase.

The chamber warned that both the Paraná downspout and the Paraguay river, “where a large part of Brazil’s iron ore comes from, are strongly impacting the industry’s costs.”
