The industry had its best September in four years, according to Ferreres

Between the sectors, The automotive complex stood out (+ 35.4% yoy), which recorded the highest production figure since August 2018, the production of basic metals (+ 23.5% yoy) and plastics (+ 19.4% yoy) .

In a long-term view, the industry has already surpassed not only the pre-pandemic level, but also the previous two years of economic crisis.

Thus, the industrial activity of the ninth month of the current is higher by 11.4%, 10.4% and 8.8% when compared to September 2020, 2019 and 2018 respectively, while it is 1.9% below September 2017.

“For the next few months we expect the industry to continue showing moderate progress thanks to the expansion of demand in a context of greater circulation, although there is some uncertainty about the evolution of the main macroeconomic variables after the legislative elections”, the report stated.

Food, Beverages and Tobacco: The production of the food sector registered an annual increase of 11.3% in September, mainly driven by the higher level of crushing in the oil complex (+ 17.4% yoy) and by the expansion in the production of alcoholic beverages (+40, 6% ai). Cattle slaughter, on the other hand, showed an annual contraction of 10.0%. As a whole, the sector accumulates for the nine months analyzed a rise of 8.1% in relation to the same period last year.

Machinery and equipment: In September, the machinery and equipment sector registered a growth of 19.3%, thanks to the result obtained by the automotive industry, which with 43,535 units produced in the month marked the highest record since August 2018, and exceeded by 35.4% the level of the same month of 2020. The variation for the total of the section was not so large due to the slowdown in the production of white goods. Thus, the accumulated mark an annual expansion of 43.7%.

Non-metallic minerals: The production of non-metallic minerals has been showing a de-acceleration in its annual expansion rate, registering a rise of 7.6% in September, after an average of more than 17% in the last three months, and noting the first variation of a single figure after twelve months in the double digits. In this way, the sector accumulates an improvement of 34.8% in the first nine months of the year compared to the same period of the previous year.

Basic Metallic: The steel industry posted an annual advance of 23.5%, accumulating an expansion of 42.6% for the months under analysis. Among the production lines, the greater production of primary iron stood out (+ 70.6%). There were also increases in the manufacture of aluminum (+ 31.8%), crude steel (+ 20.8%) and hot-finished rolled products (+ 24.4%), while cold-finished rolled products fell 14 , 6% per year.
