Thermal insulation and the use of renewable energy – this is a priority for companies when it comes to climate protection.
Industry in Germany has more than doubled its investments in climate protection within ten years, thanks in part to government funding.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, companies in the manufacturing industry – excluding the construction industry – spent around EUR 3.46 billion on systems to avoid emissions or to use resources more sparingly in 2019. In 2009, according to the Wiesbaden authority, it was 1.63 billion euros.
More than half (52.4 percent) of the companies’ climate protection investments in 2019 went into the use of renewable energies, for example through wind power or photovoltaic systems (1.81 billion euros). Another 1.14 billion euros (33.1 percent) were invested in the thermal insulation of buildings, for example, in order to save energy.
The share of climate protection measures in total investment by German industry was, however, still comparatively low at 3.6 percent in 2019. The statisticians explained that the proportion has risen by one percentage point within ten years, among other things with state funding: The state has been promoting the conversion to production processes that use less energy and protect the climate for years.
