The Provincial Chamber of Mining Suppliers of Catamarca (CAPPROMIN) and experts from the consultancy ABCB began a training cycle for local mining suppliers promoted by MARA Integrated Projectthe company that will produce copper, molybdenum, gold and silverminerals for daily use and elements for the development of electromobility and sustainable energy generation.

In the first round of training, more than 65 small and medium-sized entrepreneurs who provide services or provide goods to the mining industry participated, where the axis was addressed “Supply from the perspective of a buyer from the mining sector”and they were able to raise their doubts and concerns to the training team.

The next training to be held on May 4 on the subject “Budgets and quotation”, virtually. Then the topics will be discussed. “Price and Costing Formulation”; “Economic and Financial Planning” and “Price Update”.

From CAPPROMIN, which is an entity that brings together the mining chambers of Capital, Andalgalá, Belén, Santa María and Tinogastahighlighted the importance of the cycle and the five specific training modules. “The approach of each course will be dynamic, with theoretical descent through specific cases of supply of goods and services, and that the cycle is open and is available to all members of each of the chambers, free of charge”highlighted from Catamarca.

The trainings are part of the Strengthening Program for Chambers of Suppliers which began last year, and which was born from an agreement between CAPPROMIN and the company MARA Project (Agua Rica-Alumbrera Mine), through which it seeks to present in a transparent manner and in advance the needs of the mining companies from the construction stage, detect the installed capacity in Catamarca, promote and develop them. Also, it intends to train small and medium suppliers in administrative issues, ways of quoting and other issues of interest to the sector.

To carry out the program, the national consultancy ABECEB was actively involved, whose professionals, based on an on-site diagnosis, designed the plan and the consequent actions that make up the cycle. Hence, a training team was set up, made up of ABECEB professionals with significant experience in the mining sector and understanding of the requirements from the perspective of the supply chain.

What is MARA Project

He MARA project It is the result of the integration completed in December 2020 of the project rich water with the plant and infrastructure Alumbrera Mining. It is located about 25 km north of Andalgalá and takes advantage of Alumbrera’s existing infrastructure, which improves the economics of the project and reduces the economic and environmental footprint, significantly increasing the value of the project.

Today it is in the middle of an advanced exploration campaign in the field, to carry out geometallurgical and geotechnical studies. With this information, it is expected to advance to the feasibility stage.

Although MARA will use the Alumbrera infrastructure, an investment in the construction of US$2,996 million until 2026 with more than 3,500 new jobs and some u$s1,098 million more during the operation, with another 1,000 permanent people. The goal is for 90% of the staff to be local. In total, for the MARA project, disbursements are estimated for u$s4,049 million.
