Espert rejected the idea of dollarizing and predicted what would happen with inflation

The national deputy of Avanza Libertad for the province of Buenos Aires Jose Luis Espert rejected today the possibility of dollarize the Argentine economy, said that people are “very hurt” from strange experiments, warned that the inflation can reach 10% per month, which the dollar shot responds to the rise in prices in general and opened the door to the possibility of being a candidate for president.

dollarize

“I think that Argentine society does not give more than strange experiments with price controls, a soybean dollar 1, 2 or 3 or leaps into the void. People are very hurt by everything that politics has done and does to them” , said Espert in dialogue with Radio La Red about the proposal of the deputy of La Libertad Avanza, Javier Milei, who promotes the idea of dollarizing the economy.

He also stressed that having its own currency is an act of sovereignty and that it is something that more than 90% of the countries have, although he pointed out that to have a currency “you don’t have to have inflation, to not have inflation you don’t have to have a deficit, to not have a deficit, you have to have a State that spends what it collects, and so on. Let’s do what is already written, let’s not invent more.”

dollar shot

Regarding this week’s rise, which led the blue to jump more than 20 pesos in two days, the economist added: “The dollar and inflation are Siamese twins, they go together. Unfortunately, what is happening with the dollar is due to the disaster it generates (This trend of going hand in hand.) If inflation continues at 7 or 8%, the dollar will eventually follow inflation of 120 or 130%.”

Fight against inflation

Asked about possible measures to fight inflation, the deputy emphasized that “we must not do strange experiments or jump into the void”, but rather “imitate what other countries do”.

“What happens with the dollar, with inflation, rates, misery, poverty, indigence, recession. As long as we don’t stop doing what we are doing, the consequences will be the same. If you continue to have the same laws labor laws from 80 years ago, archaic pension laws, an elephantine state that lives on taxes on the people, obviously the consequences are going to be the same,” he stressed.

“We have to do everything differently without making any leaps into the void, simply copying what countries where people live well do. You don’t have to do strange experiments or jumps into the void, you have to do what other countries do where you He would love to live, he doesn’t even have to go to the United States or Switzerland. The things that happen here don’t happen in Uruguay, nor do they in Paraguay.”

projections

For the next few months, Espert anticipated that the inflationary acceleration trend will continue: “In the short term we are going to accelerate the inflation rate, I could not rule out with this rise in the dollar, which is going to continue, that we have some month of up to 10% inflation in the coming months. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but if you tell me 10% being already at 8 with fuel rate adjustment, it can reach 10”.

He also added that the country could face a crisis like the one the country experienced in 2018, under the presidency of Mauricio Macri, which led to the request for a loan of US$55,000 million from the IMF.

Candidacy

“I am a candidate for governor (of the province of Buenos Aires) but if this new space where we liberals come together, I can be a candidate for president,” he concluded.
