It is not the first time he has come into conflict with the law. Lee Jae Yong is now fined more than 50,000 euros for illegal drug use.
Samsung heir Lee Jae Yong was fined Tuesday for illicit drug use.
As the news agency Yonhap reports, the central district court in Seoul sentenced the 53-year-old vice chairman of the supervisory board of Samsung Electronics to a fine of 70 million won (about 52,000 euros).
The illegal substance is said to be the anesthetic propofol. Lee is said to have had the narcotic drug, which is illegal in South Korea, over 40 times between 2015 and 2020. According to South Korean law, the mere receipt of illegal substances is also punishable, i.e. accepting them when buying.
Lee Jae Yong is the grandson of Samsung founder Lee Byung Chull. He was only served two and a half years in prison for bribery and embezzlement in January, but was pardoned early in August. Since then he has largely withdrawn from the public eye.
