The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, announced yesterday a plan for electrical energy works for some $7,000 million that the electrical distributor Edesur must carry out in 12 districts of the Buenos Aires suburbs, with the aim of resolving supply cuts in large sectors of the population in the southern zone of the metropolitan area in the face of winter and summer demand peaks.
The work on the network will be carried out over the next 180 days, will benefit some 600,000 users and will be financed with part of the billing income received by Edesur, Massa explained when leading the signing of a commitment document yesterday at the CCK. Present were the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón; the controller of Edesur, Jorge Ferraresi; his counterpart from ENRE, Walter Martello. The plan consists of 278 works in the municipalities of Florencio Varela, San Vicente, Presidente Perón, Ezeiza, Esteban Echeverría, Quilmes, Cañuelas, Avellaneda, Lomas de Zamora, Berazategui, Lanús, Almirante Brown. Massa He maintained that “these 278 works in 12 municipalities are trying to complete the winter plan and carry out the works of the summer plan so that this dramatic situation in March, within 180 days, is a terrible memory for those who had to live it; for the company, an unfortunate fact in which it had to pay fines for breaching the contract, but for the State the responsibility of fulfilling its obligations.” The infrastructure plan “will have a social and non-commercial criteria, it will have an investment of $7,000 million and will benefit 600,000 users; that is, a total estimated at 2,400,000 people”, Massa specified. In addition, the minister assured that the financing of the announced works will be carried out through the percentage determined in the resolution of the tariff increase for 2023, for which the distributor “must allocate 37% of its billing to the plan that will be developed in the next 180 days”. In this same sense, he also announced that in 30 days the national government will announce the Five-Year Plan that will prioritize the works to be carried out in the next five years in the city of Buenos Aires and suburban parties. In this way, after 9 years, the works in transformer stations, substations and power lines will be reactivated. In turn, Royón recalled that last March there were peaks in demand for electricity and stressed that “the generation sector responded as it should and there were no problems in the generation.” “I recognize the work carried out by the wholesale company Cammesa, since we were able to face this type of demand in Argentina without problems, with unusual temperature peaks,” added the secretary. The official pointed out that “that is why this type of work is essential for the residents of Edesur in order to reach a definitive solution for next summer.” For her part, Ferraresi remarked that “the mayors had been suffering from this problem for 10 years” and that work was done to value “everything that had to be done in the territory, visiting all the municipalities.” In addition, the Edesur Comptroller emphasized and highlighted the participation of the UTN (National Technological University) as inspector of the works and for the control and follow-up that the superintendents of the infrastructure plan will carry out. of CABA, will incorporate 1055 MVA. The work in CABA will have an investment of US$145 million over a period of 42 months and will imply an estimated annual saving of US$5.5 million. The investment will benefit 3,800,000 residents of the city through the improvement in the quality of service during peak demand in winter and summer.
