Bilateral trade between Argentina and Brazil reached US$2,554 million in April and grew 11.1% year-on-year, but Argentine sales to neighboring countries fell 13.6%according to a report prepared by the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC).
The commercial exchange between both countries fell 7.5% compared to last Marchdue to lower exports by 24.9%, offset by the increase in imports by 5.5%.
According to the CAC survey, Argentine sales to Brazil fell 13.6% compared to April of the previous yearand cut the upward trend of the three previous months, adding US$ 889 million.
The imports from the neighboring country came to u$s1,665 million and showed an interannual increase of 31%and the trade balance for Argentina threw a deficit of US$776 million.
Trade between the two countries accumulates in the first quarter of the year a negative balance for Argentina of US$1,775 million.
In this period, exports grew by 7% compared to the first four months of 2022, while imports from Brazil increased by 26.2% in the same comparison.
The year-on-year drop in exports from Argentina to Brazil registered in April of 13.6% corresponded to the drop in sales of passenger cars and unmilled wheat and rye.
The 31% year-on-year rise in imports was mainly explained by soybeans, tubes, hollow sections and accessories for tubes, iron or steel, passenger cars, parts and accessories for motor vehicles, and iron ore and its concentrates.
The CAC report notes that Argentina ranked fourth among the largest suppliers to Brazil, behind China, Hong Kong, Macao, the United States and Germany.
