After Alberto Fernández’s closing speech in the joint declaration, Lula asked for the floor again and told how the BRICS and China intervened before in favor of Argentina.

In this regard, the Brazilian leader commented that on his recent trip to China he spoke in Shanghai with Dilma Rousseff, new president of the Bank of the BRICS, to help Argentina. Upon this request, Rousseff explained that the body cannot help a country that is not affiliated with the BRICS.

After leaving that city, Da Silva met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and asked him for help for Argentina. “I told him that he should help Argentina, that Argentina is a very important partner for Brazil,” he claimed.

Immediately afterwards, he said that he spoke with Rousseff by phone before the meeting with Fernández and that the former president told him that Xi sent the Chinese Foreign Minister to Shanghai to talk with her.

“They came to the conclusion that, in order to help, an article must be changed; that the finance ministers of the member countries change an article in order to create a fund to help the countries,” he added.

Then, the Brazilian president launched: “I don’t know where Haddad (Minister of Economy) will be now, I don’t know what schedule he has, but this BRICS meeting will be on the 29th of this month. You will have a small 26-hour trip to make your first trip as governor of the Bank of the Brics”.

“We don’t want them to lend money to Argentina. We want them to give us guarantees, because this makes the relationship with Argentina easier. We are working here to see if we can change that regulation to contribute and help Argentina,” complete.

And he closed: “Comrade, calm down and don’t lose hope, that Argentina will once again be the large and productive economy that it was for a long time.”

Finally, visibly moved, Fernández said “I only have to thank my friend Lula” and hugged his partner, with whom he shares a long-standing friendship.
