INDEC will finally release the CPI data for April on Friday 12

Through a statement, INDEC said that “Lavagna regretted that the intention to separate the Institute’s statistical work from the electoral process was misinterpreted and suspicions were aroused about the integrity of INDEC’s technical teams.”

“We consider that it is a good practice not to provide statistical information in the middle of the closure but, given the controversy caused, the four dates will remain in their originally established scheme,” they commented.

Finally, they apologized and updated the official calendar.

Controversy

The controversy had been installed when the INDEC announced the postponement of the publication of the data of April inflationwhich was scheduled for next Friday, May 12 and was moved to Monday, May 15.

“We updated the dissemination calendar because, from the recheck of the publications scheduled for this month, we detected dates that coincided with the ban on provincial elections installed after the fact of our annual dissemination scheme. The technical reports that were scheduled on 4 closed Fridays were rescheduled for the next available business day.reported the Indec.

Elections are being held this month in eight provinces. This weekend it is the turn of Misiones, Jujuy and La Rioja and, the following, it is the turn of the Pampa, San Juan, Salta, Tucumán and Tierra del Fuego.

opposition repudiation

The event had aroused opposition repudiation, mainly from Together for Change (JxC), which accused the government of “manipulating the statistics.”

The two main pre-candidates for presidents of Together for Change, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta and Patricia Bullrichspoke out against INDEC’s decision and also denounced an attempt to manipulate the statistics.

“April inflation was dramatic. The responsibility lies entirely with the national government. They will be able to hide it, disguise it or hide it as they have done with so many other problems.. But never again will the bad governments be able to deceive the Argentines. We are going to change this too”, launched the Buenos Aires head of government.

The former Minister of Security, for her part, pointed out that “once again Sergio Massa and the Kirchnerists orthey use statistics to hide reality and manipulate public opinion for political purposes. We know how much this cost Argentina. With me, it won’t happen.”
