Canada’s McEwen Copper is added as a strategic partner in one of the 10 largest current mining projects in the world. Los Azules will be a sustainable mine, whose copper will lead the planet towards a greener matrix.
YPF Light and McEwen Copper they signed a agreement collaboration for the development of renewable energy for the Los Azules Project in the province of San Juan.
He contemplates the evaluation of renewable generation alternatives and joint work in implementation of solutions aimed at guaranteeing the best supply of sustainable electricity to the project.
Present at the signing of the agreement were Martin Mandarano, CEO of YPF Light; Mariana Iribarne, Institutional Relations manager of YPF Luz; Augustin Rebello, YPF Executive Manager of B2B; Patrick Cipollone, Planning and Business Development Manager of YPF Luz; michael medingGeneral Manager of Los Azules and Vice President of McEwen Copper; Franco Rizzetto, Administration and Human Resources Manager of Los Azules y Rodolfo Ovalles, Legal Manager of Los Azules.
“The mining industry in Argentina presents great opportunities as well as the renewable energy sector. San Juan has the necessary elements: copper and the sun, which combined will make this industry viable in an efficient and competitive way for the world”, maintained Martín Mandarano.
For his part, Michael Meding, expressed “Adding YPF Luz as a strategic partner to supply Los Azules with 100% renewable energy is a very important step for the design of a sustainable mine, Los Azules copper will lead the planet towards a greener matrix. By 2038 at the latest we will achieve the goal of being carbon neutral and YPF Luz will play a key role to achieve it”.
“Los Azules” is located in the Frontal Cordillera of Argentina, on the western limit of the Province of San Juan, in the department of Calingasta.
The Project contemplates an open pit mine, with a 27 to 30-year heap leaching process, through which the production of copper cathodes with 99.99% purity will be carried out.
