“As promised and announced in spring, our gas prices will be reduced noticeably – as soon as the wholesale market allows it,” says Klaus Dorninger, Managing Director of Energie AG Vertriebs. From June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024, the gas working price for all standard products with a consumption of up to 400,000 kWh reduced by 20 percent. In a press release, Energie AG wrote of a saving of 400 euros – based on an annual consumption of 15,000 kWh (product natural gas classic). are switched to the cheaper existing customer tariffs.
The discount also applies to commercial and agricultural customers with an annual consumption of up to 400,000 kWh: According to Energie AG, customers with an annual consumption of 100,000 kWh benefit from between EUR 2,700 and EUR 8,600 depending on the offer and other bonus options.
Repayment after AK intervention
The Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor did not see the price increases at the turn of the year as legally correct. As with Energie AG, Wels Strom – a company that is 51 percent owned by the municipal eww and 49 percent owned by Energie AG – is now making repayments. Depending on annual consumption, this is between 10 and 125 euros.
As announced, Wels Strom is also reducing the electricity price for around 28,000 existing customers. For the largest customer group, the gross energy price will be 26.29 cents/kWh from July 1st.
