HR consultant Fabian Kienbaum: “The battle for talent is in full swing again”

Much has been discussed about what the working world will look like after Corona. Even now, many companies are still looking for a balance between office and home office. In the podcast, HR consultant Fabian Kienbaum tells what has also happened on the labor market.

The offices in Germany filled up noticeably in the summer, but companies are still looking for models or working with temporary solutions. The flexibility between presence in the office and home office has become and will remain the norm, says Fabian Kienbaum, head of the personnel consultancy of the same name, Kienbaum Consultants:

“The extremes are difficult: 100 percent presence or no presence at all. Many companies are in the process of establishing themselves in the middle.” According to Kienbaum’s experience, the most common models that are driven are either 50:50 or 60:40, i.e. three days in the office and two days at home.

Finding the perfect balance for all employees is not an easy thing, because home office is “a highly emotional topic”, says Kienbaum. On the one hand it is important to consider the needs of the individual, on the other hand it is important “a matter of solidarity” and part of a “Culture of trust”to come to the office regularly.

Good salaries alone are no longer enough

The recruitment agency business has revived significantly, and in 2020 Kienbaum spoke of a short one “Hibernation” of the company, which has also led to a drop in sales in his house. “But we observe that the mobility to take on really new tasks is not yet so pronounced”, reports Kienbaum, who moved to the top of personnel and management consulting in 2018. “On the one hand there is a certain uncertainty factor in some industries, on the other hand there is also a very cozy atmosphere. People think twice about looking for a new adventure.”

The fight for young talent had flared up again after the market was briefly in shock in 2020. Just good salaries weren’t enough anymore “Young Professionals” also include topics such as sustainability and purpose. “It is a generation that is also defined by how the employer positions itself”, thinks Kienbaum.
