The vice president of the National Communications Entity (Enacom), Gustavo Lopez, announced that in the coming weeks there will be advertisements for the sector of telecommunications, although he clarified that do not include the 5G tender, whose definition is still in the hands of the Executive Power.
“There will be announcements for the sector in the coming weeks,” said López at one of the conferences organized by the Argentine Internet Chamber (Cabase), called Internet Day.
López maintained that the policies deployed by the Government so far in his administration were based on the conviction that “the Internet is a human right” and therefore it is an “essential” service for all the inhabitants..
In this sense, he rejected that Enacom had “under-executed” and assured that since the beginning of the administration, $28,000 million from the Universal Service Fund have been invested in 20 different programs, which mostly aim to increase connectivity by providing Internet access in unconnected social zones or groups.
“We cannot have first class citizens and second class citizens”; stressed the official, who in his dissertation stressed the value of politics to generate social transformations.
coincided with the headline base, Ariel Graizerwho stressed the importance of public policies of 10 or 20 years, since “that is the time in which we think about our investments.”
Both also held that the regulation of the communications industry should be “asymmetric” since this sector is characterized by the strong participation of SMEs and cooperatives that “are the ones that go where large companies do not”.
Likewise, López underlined the role of the State in the deployment of fiber optic infrastructure in vulnerable neighborhoods, and in towns with fewer than a thousand inhabitants.
Regarding 5G, he pointed out that the pending decisions are of an “economic nature” and that the approval of the Radio Spectrum Administration Regulations, by Enacom, last week, is “the prelude to the 5G tender.”
For the tender of the 300 megabytes of radio spectrum for 5G technology, the private sector demanded that Enacom emulate the auction in Brazil, where investment in the deployment of the network was prioritized over the price of the spectrum.
López limited himself to pointing out that they have “advanced in the dialogue” with the companies regarding the price of the spectrum.
