The digital financial services company, which operates in Argentina through its virtual wallet, conducted the survey of 2,450 clients and 73% of those surveyed made at least one purchase or payment via QR code in the last year and within this group, 40% make payments with QR regularly. Compared to the 2019 survey, it can be seen that in four years the user base using the system doubled, which at that time barely reached 35%.
Upon further analysis, the 40% of Argentines claimed to use QR code payment regularly, 51% reported using this payment method from time to time and only 9% commented that they had made payments with this method only once..
In turn, of the 27% of those surveyed who never made payments with QR, 58% stated that they had not yet made payments with QR because the opportunity was not presented to them; 23% said they did not know how to do it and the 19% said they had not made payments with QR because it does not seem like a practical option.
“The pandemic generated a scenario of unique conditions for thousands of people to turn to the use of electronic means of payment. By prioritizing the user experience, with simple, intuitive and frictionless functionality, we will be able to achieve levels of adoption and frequency of use like those of PIX, the digital payment platform in Brazil. For this, it is key that the promise of interoperability is fulfilled in a complete and transparent manner, so that a user can pay with QR in a simple and fast way with their preferred wallet in any store, without other conditions and without fine print”, he stated. John Paul BruzzoCEO of MONI.
The use of the QR code
Data from the BCRA show that hand in hand with greater adoption of electronic payment methods, the use of the QR code is gaining ground among users of financial services. In this way, in the last year the number of operations carried out through this system multiplied by 5 and currently 1 out of 4 transfer payments starts with a QR code.
In line with this, the 86% of the Argentines consulted by MONI stated that they were aware that the QR codes of all businesses can be paid with any home banking application or virtual wallet, regardless of which entity the QR is from.proving to be aware of the implementation of the interoperable QR code.
The survey also delves into the assessment that Argentines have about this payment system with QR compared to payment with a debit card: 64% of Argentines stated that paying with QR is simpler and faster than paying with debit; 34% assured that two options are equally simple and fast and only 2% commented that paying with a virtual wallet is slower and more complicated than the traditional payment with debit card.
“You have to continue betting on the communication efforts of the entire ecosystem, especially at points of sale, so that users know that the QRs that are in stores today are generic, that is, regardless of whether they are light blue, yellow , fuchsias or if they have the logo of a certain company, they can be scanned and used from any wallet or banking application. A good step in that direction would be to reach an agreement between all the actors to promote a unique visual identity for the identification of the QR at the point of sale”, added Juan Pablo Bruzzo.
