Industry: BDI calls for concept against excessively high energy prices

The BDI is asking the traffic light coalition to come up with a concept for safe and affordable energy supply. The industry association calls for more help for companies suffering from high electricity prices.

The Federation of German Industries (BDI) is calling on the traffic light coalition to provide permanent protection against excessive energy prices and more help for companies that are particularly affected.

“The BDI expects the federal government to quickly come up with a coordinated concept that will ensure a secure supply of energy at internationally competitive costs in the long term,” the association said. In addition to the accelerated expansion of renewable energies and the corresponding infrastructure, long-term solutions are needed “to make electricity more attractive for companies and private consumers for the purpose of transformation”.

For companies that are currently or in the future “threatened in their competitiveness and viability” due to sharply increased electricity prices, support using short-term instruments is also necessary. Existing funding instruments for future technologies must be expanded and made more effective, faster, more flexible and simpler. Financing must not lead to cross-subsidization between industries via pay-as-you-go solutions.
