Deloitte survey: Fast Internet in Germany often unreliable

According to a new study, “broadband infrastructures” are still significantly less reliable than electricity or gas networks – but most consumers are unperturbed.

According to a survey, fast Internet connections in Germany are often quite sluggish: In the survey by the management consultancy Deloitte, 27 percent of the participants said that their broadband connection was unstable or slow at least once a month.

The “broadband infrastructures” are therefore still significantly less reliable than electricity or gas networks, the consultants write in their paper published on Monday. In March 2000 consumers were questioned.

Apparently quite a few citizens accept Internet problems with stoic composure: 79 percent declared themselves satisfied with their provider. Almost four out of ten respondents also believe that German mobile networks are worse than abroad. “The high level of satisfaction among Germans with their providers is gratifying from the provider’s point of view, but it shouldn’t hide the fact that there is still a need for action in many areas,” commented Dieter Trimmel, one of the authors.

The demand for super-fast gigabit connections is therefore subdued: 42 percent said these connections were too expensive for them. Only 13 percent stated that they would choose a gigabit connection at an acceptable price.
