This was reported, among other things, by the public broadcaster RTÉ on Wednesday. Accordingly, Meta informed the government in Dublin about the deletions. The employees were also informed about the plans, according to the RTÉ report. A total of around 2,500 people work for the group, which has its headquarters in Ireland for business outside the USA and Canada.

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar described the job cuts as “significant”. His thoughts are with the affected employees and their families, he said in the Irish Parliament in Dublin on Wednesday.

The cuts are part of a global downsizing plan that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg enacted for the company in March. According to this, 10,000 jobs are to be lost worldwide.
