Susanek was Managing Director of the BMW engine plant in Steyr from 2019 and moved to the BMW Group headquarters in Munich in November 2022. Since then, he has been responsible for worldwide drivetrain production at the German car manufacturer. Now the native of Munich is drawn to Salzburg to the crane manufacturer Palfinger, which operates a large plant in Lengau (Braunau district).
As COO (Chief Operating Officer), Susanek will be responsible for operational business on the Management Board from July 1st. “With Alexander Susanek as COO, we are securing Palfinger’s transformation into a leading global technology company in the long term and sustainably,” Hubert Palfinger, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Palfinger AG, was quoted as saying in a company press release on Wednesday. Among other things, experience spoke in favor of Susanek’s appointment in the BMW Group and at MAN Trucks.
At Palfinger, Susanek succeeds Martin Zehnder, who has not renewed his mandate after 15 years. He studied mechanical engineering and industrial engineering at the Technical University of Munich and then did his doctorate in business administration at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. He started his career in 2005 at MAN Truck&Bus. In 2014 he switched to BMW. Susanek is married and the father of three children.
Palfinger’s CEO is Andreas Klauser, CFO is Felix Strohbichler.
With Susanek’s departure from BMW, the Steyr location will be upgraded, at least for the time being. Because the corporate agendas at BMW drive technology are moving to Klaus von Moltke, the site manager at BMW Steyr, with immediate effect.
