So why is there talk of $20 million? Maidana explains, in this sense, that the issue is that “there is a demand for US$8 million from Gonzalo Verón, a player who was considered fired in a pandemic ”. He sent a document letter, which says that he was rejected, and started a lawsuit, which gave Independiente a payment sentence of $1.2 billion with an adjustment calculation tied to the MEP dollar and an interest rate of 8% to 10% per year. The labor court No. 2 of Avellaneda sent the case to the Supreme Court of the Province of Buenos Aires and, recently, the court validated the arguments presented by Independiente.

Dollars for Maratea: how you can access the official
Thus, Maidana considers that “Independiente’s debt is complex, but it seems more difficult than it is: the urgent thing is US$6 million”. But, How should Maratea do to pay that money to the foreign club in the current context of a shortage of dollars and with a strong exchange rate that regulates the Central Bank (BCRA)?. First of all, a source specialized in the operation of the official exchange market (MULC) explains that “Maratea will never be able to access the MULC.”
It happens that these funds, at some point, must enter the Club accounts and, from there, do the operation. “The debt that is within the regulations that establish the parameters of the payments that the BCRA can approve, can be canceled in the same way that other debts are paid,” the source details. While, of course, the debt that is not documented will not be able to access the MULC.
How the BCRA rates Independiente’s debt
And, on the other hand, the expert in foreign trade and former Secretary of Imports of the Nation, Esteban Mazorati, points out that “Independiente’s debt should be divided into two: on the one hand, the original one and, on the other, the interest generated by late payment”.
In this sense, it is worth mentioning that player transfers abroad are included in the identification of unproduced non-financial goods, a category of capital within the BCRA codes. To do this, there is an obligation to settle the operation in Argentina five days after the payment is made.
