Golden cream puff for advertising lies: There are also two “Lion’s Den” products to choose from

With the vote for the golden cream puff, Foodwatch is taking a stand against consumer deception and fraudulent labels again this year. The organization selected five candidates from the numerous consumer complaints that Foodwatch received via the Cheat Reporter portal. From these, consumers can now choose the winner of the negative award for the 12th time.

As usual, Foodwatch does not save with clear words towards industry. “Ingredient tricks, hidden price increases and health fraud: the food industry rips off consumers with brazen advertising ploys. Especially in times when people are already being asked to pay a lot when shopping, overpriced advertising lies are particularly outrageous,” says Rauna Bindewald from Foodwatch.

In 2009, Foodwatch created the symbolic diatribe for the Golden Cream Bag. Previous winners have included food giants such as Danone, Ferrero and Coca-Cola. Most recently, Rewe won the cream puff for its marketing of allegedly climate-neutral chicken. The supermarket chain had initially rejected the allegations about controversial CO2 certificates, but later renounced the climate advertising.
