important commercial mission begins today in São Paulo

“The trade mission to São Paulo is something we have been working on for almost a month. 60% of everything that Argentina exports to Brazil comes from the province of Buenos Aires. We will further strengthen the successful bilateral relationship. There is immense potential to continue growing together with Fiesp ”, said Scioli. At the same time he added: “We managed to summon a large number of investors for this meeting. Our goal has always been to create more jobs, foreign exchange and investment for our country ”.

While there is no business that is previously closed, there is an expectation that progress may be made. Two weeks ago Scioli and Consul Luis Kreckler met with the president of the most important industrial federation in Brazil, Paulo Skaf, who also expressed his commitment to “further strengthen trade relations.” In this sense, from the embassy they were optimistic and pointed out that “there is a fluid link with companies and that is why this event is being carried out, it has been working for a long time.”

The country presided over by Bolsonaro is Argentina’s main trading partner. In addition, it is the recipient of 60% of Buenos Aires exports. According to data from the Buenos Aires Ministry of Production, between July and August, sales abroad in the Province grew by 58.6% and reached US $ 2,832 million.

Despite the differences that exist on the political level between the leaders of the countries, bilateral trade has been growing. In September 2021, Argentine exports to Brazil were US $ 988.3 million, and Brazil’s US $ 987.5 million, with an Argentine surplus of US $ 800,000. In addition, Argentine sales grew 37% compared to the same month of 2020, while Brazilian sales grew 22%. The bilateral trade flow reached US $ 1,975.8 million, representing an increase of 29% compared to the same month in 2020.

At the diplomatic level, Argentina has scored a triumph weeks ago, when it agreed to a reduction of the common external tariff of the Mercosur much milder than what Brazil and Uruguay intended. With that tension resolved, progress is now being made on other issues on the bilateral agenda such as energy and trade complementation. Thus, in this commercial mission, beyond the placement of products, the Buenos Aires government will also seek to attract investment.
