This weekend, there was talk of the return of General José de San Martín to banknotes, after the 5-peso one that had him as the protagonist went out of circulation. And, this time, he would return to the scene on the $1,000 bill, the second largest in Argentina today after the $2,000 bill came out a couple of weeks ago. But he is not the only hero who will be in the weights again. Since the Government plans to restore the presence of historical figures in several of the denominations in circulation, as announced by the Central Bank (BCRA) about a year ago.
As reported by one of the main journalistic programs on Channel 13 this weekend, the new San Martín ticket would begin to circulate from July 15 and Ambit I can know that others will start coming out during the second half of the year.
In this way, gradually, just as San Martín will replace the hornero on the $1,000 bill, Martín Miguel de Güemes and Juana Azurduy will become the stars of the $200 bill, displacing the southern right whale of the current design, and María Remedios del Valle Manuel Belgrano will be added to the $500 one, since the latter is the figure that illustrates the first design of that paper, and the jaguar will no longer be printed.
It should be clarified that there is no replacement processaccording to reports from the Government, but that the previous families of banknotes will continue in circulation and the different denominations will be incorporated into the amounts demanded by the financial system.
What will the new bills look like?
These are the designs that, together with Casa de Moneda Argentina, the BCRA elaborated and mark the return of historical personalities to paper money:

Another of the novelties of this family is that the banknotes return to their reading in horizontal format from both sides.
