Vehicle manufacturing in May grew by almost 15% year-on-year

The production national of vehicles reached 53,282 units in May, that is, 14.8% above the volume of the same month of 2022.

While exports (30,279 units) grew more than 13% in the same period, according to the report of the Association of Automotive Factories (Adefa) with a drop of 1.5% in comparison with April.

The report indicated that with 20 business days of activity, automotive terminals in May produced 2.1% less than in April, when 46,422 units were manufactured.

In the accumulated from January to May, the sector produced 242,255 passenger and utility vehicles, that is, 24% more than the 195,306 units that were produced in the same period of 2022.

“Although the readaptation of the assembly lines for maintenance and the launch of new models caused a slight drop in month-on-month volumes, in year-on-year terms, activity continues to record sustained growth thanks to the work and effort of the value chain,” explained Martin Galdeano, Adefa President.

The head of the entity highlighted that “activity continues to grow in a challenging context, in which the terminal companies agreed to new commercial import conditions until September 2023 and regulations, prioritizing production and export,” added Galdeano.

The accumulated exports in the first five months of the year amounted to 128,753 units, 19% more than the 108,157 units that were sent to various markets between January and May of last year.

Finally, with regard to wholesale sales, the report showed that in May the automotive sector sold 38,604 vehicles to the dealer network, 14.5% above the volume of May 2022 and 14.2% more than April deliveries.

Between January and May, a total of 162,723 units were sold to dealers, 13.0% above the 143,997 units that were delivered in the same period of the previous year.
