Marcó del Pont highlighted the country’s potential in energy and technology

The Secretary for Strategic Affairs, Mercedes Marco del Pontparticipated in the Regional Infrastructure Seminar “What Argentina do we want to be?”, organized by the Ministry of Public Works, headed by Gabriel Katopodis.

The official opened the second panel “We have the energy the world needs. How do we achieve a sovereign and sustainable energy matrix?”, where she shared the table with the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón; the Undersecretary for Planning and Operational Management of Water Projects, Fernando Zárate; and the general manager of the Salto Grande Hydroelectric Complex, Daniel Perczyk.

Energy transition: “We have the energy that the world needs but we also have the scientific, technological, industrial, and human capacities to guarantee development with inclusion in our country. The energy transition is much more than the possibility of having foreign currency to alleviate external restrictions, the development of the lithium economy is an opportunity to strengthen industrialization and reduce the territorial gaps that our country has”.

Public politics: “Faced with the opportunity represented by the energy transition, we must anticipate advancing in public policies that allow Argentina to join this virtuous process by participating in all the links of the global value chains.”

Lithium: “Argentina has the scientific and technological heritage to guarantee that part of the lithium production is industrialized in the country. We are working with the Ministry of Industry on an electric vehicle production project so that the energy transition also represents an opportunity for the automotive and auto parts industry”.

Regulatory framework: “Our government cannot end without discussing the regulatory framework that, among other aspects, guarantees the availability of a quota of lithium for its industrialization in Argentina.”

Hydrogen: “The bill presented by the Government for the development of hydrogen establishes clear rules of the game to guarantee that our country can participate in all the links of the value chain.”
