Specialized agents of the General Directorate of Customs dismantled and seized the contraband of more than a thousand packages of cigarettes valued at $650,000 at the Cristo Redentor Border Center, in Mendozawhich were hidden in a truck with Argentine registration that was transporting lime and was heading towards Chile.

After the inspection of the scanner in the routine control arranged by the staff, the images showed a “suspicious” density in different parts of the truck. It was at that time that what was thought was corroborated: there 4 black boxes with a thousand packs of cigarettes. Two of the boxes were found under the driver’s mattress in the cab, and the other two were found under the chute.

Customs personnel detected the smuggling of more than 1,000 packs of cigarettes in Mendoza.
After the operation, Customs agents appraised the merchandise and determined that its value amounts to $650,000. The driver was summoned to testify as a defendant in the case for smuggling.
The driver, an Argentine citizen, was summoned to testify as a defendant; Mendoza Court No. 1 intervened in the case for smuggling, which ordered the seizure of all the infringing merchandise.
