Electric power exports in nine months exceeded all of 2020

According to the numbers managed by the Compañía Administradora del Mercado Mayorista Eléctrico (Cammesa), between January and September of this year, foreign currency entered the country in electricity exports for US $ 592.76 million at an average price of US $ 202, 26 per megawatt hour (MWh).

This number was also a historical record for the sector due to the water downpipe that is registered in Brazil this year and which caused a much higher demand than usual, with which it is expected that the inflow of foreign currency could reach US $ 1,000. millions.

In September, the Brazilian demand of 898 GWh and represented almost a third of the 2,930.6 GWh accumulated in nine months, thus exceeding the historical maximum of 2,700 GWh obtained throughout the whole of last year.

The 898 GWh exported to Brazil, at an average value of US $ 287.1 per MWh, meant a foreign exchange income of US $ 257,815,800.

The previous month, August, had already registered an important demand from the neighboring country, of 675.5 GWh, which added to the 4.1 GWh exported to Uruguay, an offer of 679.6 GWh was completed at an average value of US $ 236.3 MWh, which totaled an income of US $ 160,589,480.

2021 started with an export demand of 521.1 GWh, of which 489.7 GWh were from Brazil and 31.4 GWh from Uruguay, with an average value of US $ 166.6 per MWh, totaling US $ 86,815 .260.

In February that demand remained high, for 498.9 GWh (495.2 from Brazil and 3.7 from Uruguay) at US $ 85.6 per MWh, generating revenues of US $ 41,935,440.

But for March there was a decrease and 72.6 gwh were exported (61.8 to Brazil and 10.8 to Uruguay) at a value of US $ 82 per MWh, leaving a balance of US $ 5,953,200; and in April it fell even more to 12.2 GWh (7.2 Brazil and 5 Uruguay) at the same value of the previous month, which added US $ 1,000,400 to the export account.

May was a particular month, without electricity exports, but in June shipments of 87 GWh only to Brazil were resumed, with an average value that increased to US $ 138.2 and thus translated into revenues of US $ 12,023,400 .

Finally, in July demand increased again, which meant the shipment of 161.2 GWh to Brazil at a price that climbed to US $ 165.2 and meant foreign exchange for US $ 26,630,240 for the country.
