The ENRE comptroller, Walter Martello, pointed out that “this measure does not compensate for the discomfort and difficulties that a power cut implies, but it does help to correct the economic losses that users suffer in these cases.”
The ENational Electricity Regulatory Body (ENRE) determined that as of July, claims for prolonged power cuts can be made when 15 hours are reached without electricity.
Thus, through resolution 452/2023 published today in the Official Gazette, the agency annulled the criteria that established that claims could only be made once more than 36 hours without supply.
In this way, users who are affected by supply cuts of a minimum of 15 continuous hours may initiate the claim on the ENRE website requesting the corresponding distributor (Edenor or Edesur) the compensation of 2,000 kilowatts (Kw) applicable for these cases, which according to the average rate for June amounts to approximately $43,000
Regarding this resolution, the ENRE controller, Walter Martello, pointed out that “This measure does not compensate for the discomfort and difficulties that a power cut implies, but it does help to correct the economic losses that users suffer in these cases”.
In addition, he affirmed that “it is a concrete signal to the electrical companies so that they reinforce the investments in the zones that are constantly affected by this type of cuts”.
ENRE: the claims of the first quarter
In this sense, in the first four-month period of 2023, 93.87% of the claims filed with the ENRE for repeated and prolonged power outages were resolved favorably, forcing the distributors Edenor and Edesur to make discounts to affected users for more than $129 millions.
