Students can already use local transport at a reduced price with semester tickets. But now there is the Deutschlandticket. What does that mean for the semester tickets?
The Greens are insisting on relief for students with the Deutschlandticket in local and regional transport. The Greens transport politician Nyke Slawik said: “Students should be able to get the Germany ticket as a discounted semester ticket.” It is only fair that this group is taken into account alongside employees who are already benefiting from the job ticket.
A motion for a resolution by the traffic light parliamentary groups on an amendment to the railway law states that the Deutschlandticket should be further developed together with the federal states with regard to further discounted offers, such as for students, within the framework of the competences of the federal government. This should be debated on Thursday evening. Slawik said the application should give Federal Minister of Transport Volker Wissing (FDP) “tailwind” in the Bundestag to quickly implement a discounted semester ticket together with the federal states.
A nationwide valid semester ticket at a price of 29.40 euros in the solidarity model, starting in the winter semester, is under discussion. According to earlier information, the conference of transport ministers has not yet made a decision. A spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of Transport said at the time that the federal government was not responsible.
In Berlin, the Technical University is letting the contract for the semester ticket with the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg expire at the end of the current semester. The student parliament had voted for it. The background is the introduction of the 49-euro ticket. As of this month, students whose university has concluded a semester ticket contract with the transport company can upgrade their ticket to the Deutschlandticket. The criticism: After an upgrade, students paid almost as much for the Deutschlandticket as non-students. The University of Applied Sciences also announced at the end of May that it would not renew the semester ticket contract.
