Wholesale prices accelerated to 7.1% in May, but were below retail inflation

The index of wholesale prices sped up slightly to a 7.1% in May, reported this Thursday the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). Thus, wholesale prices accumulated a rise from 37.1% in the first five months of 2023 and 107.6% in the last year.

Besides, the general level of the basic wholesale internal price index (IPIB) showed a rise of 6.9% last month. In this case, INDEC explained that it is due to the 6.8% rise in “Domestic Products” and 8.5% in “Imported Products”.

At the same time, the general level of the Basic Producer Price Index (IPP) registered an increase of 6.8% in Mayas a consequence of the rise of 4.7% in “Primary products” and of 7.6% in “Manufactured products and electricity”.

For his part, the cost of construction advanced 7.2% in May compared to the previous month, while it presented a rise of 36.9% so far this year, and 115.1% in the last 12 months.

This result arises as a consequence of an increase of 7.8% in the “Materials” chapter, of 6.6% in the “Labor” chapter and of 6.9% in the “General expenses” chapter.

The “Labor” chapter, corresponding to May, registered a monthly increase of 6.6%. This result arises as a consequence of an increase of 6.3% in “Salaried labor” and of 8% in “Subcontracted labor”.
