Making better use of the potential of refugees on the Upper Austrian labor market and giving people a chance: Caritas Upper Austria and Volkshilfe Upper Austria are calling for this on the occasion of World Refugee Day next Tuesday.
Since 2021, asylum seekers have not only been allowed to work in seasonal jobs or as non-profit workers, but in all professions. But far too little is known about this in the companies, says Caritas Upper Austria President Franz Kehrer: “At last, asylum seekers are no longer dependent on state aid while they are waiting.” The economy, asylum seekers and society would benefit from this.

Volkshilfe chairman Michael Schodermayr criticizes the fact that access to the employment relationship is not equal and involves a bureaucratic effort for the employer. This is incomprehensible in times of labor shortages. The employer must apply for a work permit from the AMS. If no Austrian, EEA citizen or third-country national with a residence permit can be found for the job, one will be issued.
