J. Weck GmbH & Co KG, based in Wehr, and Weck Glaswerk Gesellschaft, based in Bonn, each filed for insolvency at the Karlsruhe District Court, according to announcements by the court published on Tuesday. The lawyer Thilo Braun was appointed as the provisional insolvency administrator. WirtschaftsWoche had initially reported on it.

When asked, the company from Wehr-Öflingen in Baden-Württemberg initially did not comment on the procedure. According to the company, it was founded by Johann Carl Weck and Georg van Eyck in 1900 and has been producing and selling preserving jars, rings, pots and other accessories ever since.

In 1895, the two founders bought the patent for preserving food. As namesake for the preserving jars, the company’s products were an important part of many households for decades. The company has operated a glass factory in Bonn-Duisdorf since 1950.
