In the ongoing wage conflict, the pilots’ union Cockpit is not satisfied with a new offer from Lufthansa. Are strikes threatening in the summer holidays?
The Cockpit union does not consider Lufthansa’s new offer for pilots of the core brand Lufthansa Airlines and the cargo subsidiary Cargo to be sufficient. “This offer does not address essential core requirements and, overall, falls far short of our requirements and expectations,” said the pilots’ union in a circular to the members, which is available to the German Press Agency. The “Aero.de” portal had previously reported about it.
Among other things, the term is disputed. According to media reports, Lufthansa’s offer together with previous increases results in a salary increase of 18.5 percent – spread over several years until 2025. The pilots had already received an increase of 490 euros per month twice during the ongoing collective bargaining talks. Cockpit demands 8.5 percent more for a term of 12 months. The Lufthansa offer extended the increase by 8.5 percent to a period of 30 months, the circular said.
The Lufthansa management did respond to the cockpit requirements on many topics that had not previously been addressed. But they are farther apart.
The peace obligation for the more than 5000 pilots ends on June 30th. Strikes would be possible in the summer holiday season.
Most recently, the Cockpit Association had asked Lufthansa not to play for time. This inevitably leads to escalation. The own demands had been on the table for a long time, it was said at the beginning of June. Among other things, it is about protection against stress, better compatibility of work and family as well as a new remuneration structure and salary increases.
