He Argentine Commercial Exchange (ICA) registered in may a negative balance of US$1,154 millionhigher than the red of US$193 million registered in April, reported this Wednesday the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC).
According to INDEC data, exports totaled 6,203 million dollars, with an interannual decrease of 24.8%, and the Imports totaled 7,357 million dollars, which represented a decrease of 6.7%.
Argentina accumulated in the first five months of the year a negative balance of 2,690 million dollarsdue to the historical drought.
With regard to shipments abroad, the item most affected was that of primary products that marked a decrease of 37.2% year-on-year, adding sales for US$786 million.
Manufactures of Agricultural Origin (MOA) marked a drop of 29%, with a billing of US$1,058 million. In this case, the strong decrease was mainly due to the decline in grain exports, due to the severe drought that impacted the Argentine harvest.
For their part, the Exports of Industrial Origin (MOI) fell 9.1% year-on-year, for an amount of US$75 million; and the category Fuel and Energy (C&E) reflected a decrease of 5.5%.
