Through a statement sent to the National Securities and Exchange Commission (CNV), Ternium reported that the new plant “will be built and integrated into the existing downstream facilities of the company in Pesquería, Nuevo León, Mexico, after an exhaustive review of the locations postulates. Ternium expects construction to start in December 2023, with the start of operations expected in the first half of 2026.

“We are excited to announce the selection of Pesquería, Nuevo León, as the official location for our new upstream production capacity project,” said Máximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium.
“Today we announce the largest investment plan in the history of Ternium, with US$3.2 billion that will be fully placed in the Pesquería plant in Nuevo León,” added Vedoya.
The steel company reported in a statement that it will be “the most modern in the Americas and will include a 300-ton EAF furnace with the Consteel system, and two secondary metallurgy furnaces with a capacity of 300 tons of liquefied steel, an RH-type vacuum degassing system, and two-line caster”.
The machinery, it is also underlined, is operated 100% remotely to improve safety, while on the sustainability front the factory has a CO2 capture system created by Tenova and uses 100% recycled wastewater. The structure is also configured to operate on green hydrogen fuel when this technology is deemed feasible.
