Rosemarie Ferstl is the new Vice President of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture. She was elected at Thursday’s general assembly with 25 out of 35 votes. Ferstl succeeds Karl Grabmayr, who has resigned from his position after almost twelve years. As reported, she had been nominated by the farmers’ association. The President of the Chamber is Franz Waldenberger.

Ferstl comes from Perg, runs a sideline processing business together with her husband Erwin (arable farming, pig fattening, cattle fattening, forestry) and is the chairwoman of the Perg District Chamber of Farmers. She is 51 years old and has two daughters.

On the occasion of her election, Ferstl emphasized that the increasing quality and animal welfare demands of consumers could only be met if agriculture could also be operated economically. “There is currently a lot of discussion about the increased food prices, and consumers are increasingly reaching for the cheap price segment in the supermarket. But if you only buy cheaply, then there is a risk that food will no longer be produced according to our high quality standards in Austria, but will increasingly be imported. But we need strong Austrian agriculture in order to continue to guarantee security of supply in our own country as far as possible,” said Ferstl.
