The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation celebrated the realization of this important milestone in the industry aquaculture Argentina. The export of aquaculture products is one of the priorities of the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, who seeks to promote and strengthen this activity throughout the country. With presence in 14 provinces and another five in the process of accessionthe exploitation of this sector has experienced “remarkable growth in the last two and a half years,” according to official sources.
In the year 2022exports increased significantlyand it is projected to reach more than 100,000 tons in the coming years.
The Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Carlos Liberman, stressed that this is a new milestone in the development of Argentine aquaculture. Besideshighlighted the potential that this activity It has to complement traditional fishing, generating income and employment for hundreds of Argentines.
william abdala, National Director of Aquaculture, attributed this success to the work carried out together with the provinces, municipalities, universities and organizations such as Senasa, INTA, INIDEP, INTI and AMBIENTE. He also highlighted that this export is a big step towards federalization development of aquaculture and the generation of high-quality proteins throughout the country.
The plant in Piedra del Águila
The construction of the fish processing plant in eagle stone, started in March 2022, in the Productive Corridor of the Wind, played a fundamental role in promoting aquaculture in the region.
With a covered area of almost 1,000 square meters, this plant offers services of slaughter, evisceration, filleting and maintenance of frozen merchandise. Currently, the plant employs 200 workers, mainly women from Piedra del Águila and its surroundings. By the year 2030, it is expected to reach a production of 15,000 tons and directly employ 400 people.
Argentine aquaculture has shown its potential and is positioned as a growing activity, generating economic and job opportunities in various regions of the country. With the export of rainbow trout to the United States as an important milestone, a promising future is glimpsed for the Argentine aquaculture sector.
