After which, he asserted that there was “fortunately compression of the pharmaceutical chambers”, and anticipated that from Monday “prices would have to begin to be ordered”.
The secretary specified that the monitoring modality will be through the charging of prices by the laboratories through the National Vademecum of Medicines published by the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (Anmat), the database of the drugs that are currently marketed in the country.
“The laboratories agreed that what was not integrated into the Vademecum must be integrated,” Feletti said, while recalling that the mechanism was “abandoned by macrismo” and “now there is consensus with the Minister (of Health, Carla) Vizzotti to build it ”.
“They (the laboratories) are going to incorporate the products on Monday and, on that, we are going to start stabilization work”said the official.
“In principle it would be on all products until January 7, and then at the work table, we all know that in these things there are usually discussions so that they will be rectified and corrected,” he added.
In this sense, Feletti stressed the need to “open a set of work tables, as in the case of food”, with the aim of “gradually consolidating these two regulated baskets of essential goods”.
“In the case of medicines, there is fortunately an important and strong national industry; and there also has to be a scenario in which there is regulation based on defining access to popular income,” said the secretary, adding: “People do not choose to eat or not to eat; or to treat themselves or not to take care of themselves when they are sick; it is a market with rigid demand.”
Feletti indicated that the first objective of the Secretariat at the beginning of his administration was “to stop and stabilize prices”, after observing “a very strong and inexplicable acceleration in food and medicine prices in the first two to three weeks of October.”
“We can have the best parity, the best retirement formula, a lot of social investment as the Government develops, but if everything is drained by prices we are in a serious problem, and that is what we saw,” he added.
On the other hand, Feletti considered that the price agreement for 1,432 food products for mass consumption, which were also frozen until next January 7, “is being carried out quite well in the large supermarket chains.”
“We were able to agree on Tuesday with Changomas with whom there were some differences,” Feletti said.
According to the Secretary, the chain, which at the end of October only had 62% compliance in its stores in the province of Buenos Aires and 77.5% in the City, “improved compliance” according to the latest indicators received.
For his part, he announced that on Monday he will meet with regional chains and small merchants in order to “evaluate margins and supply issues”, in which “there are differences with the big chains.”
They had stated that, due to the intermediation of the wholesalers (unlike the large chains), they could not obtain a sufficient margin from the agreed products.
Finally, Feletti anticipated that the effect of the measures will only be felt in the consumer price index for November.
“We expect the food index (for October) to be below 2.9%,” he said.
“Inflation cannot be resolved only by controlling prices and we all know that, but knowing that there is a monopoly supply, essential consumption must be regulated on that supply. This is the first and most immediate task of the Secretary, that the President asked me and asked me ”, he concluded.
