Dead cow accumulated 6,974 stages of fracture in the first half of 2023 and set a new historical record of activity for Neuquén unconventional hydrocarbons.
According to the report prepared by Luciano Fucello, country manager of the international firm NCS Multistage, to which Ámbito agreed, in June the figure of 1,157 stages in the hands of eight different operators, 11% less than in May, when 1,304 in total.
However, in the sector they are exultant and celebrate record oil and gas production. It is that in the first six months of the year the growth was 24% higher than the same period last year (some 1,353 additional), when it totaled 5,621 fracture stages.

The first semester of 2021 there were 4,363 stages; some 1,403 stages in 2020 from the start of the pandemic; about 3,359 in 2019; some 2,067 stages in 2018; about 1,108 in 2017; and 887 in 2016, when the survey of the level of activity of the companies that operate in the Neuquén unconventional formation began.
The report also detailed that during June YPF was once again the operator with the highest level of fractures, with 583 materialized in its operations in Dead cow, which represented just over half of everything done in the month. So far in 2023, YPF has added 3,409 stages, and since 2016, it has accumulated 23,639.

In the monthly ranking, behind the company with the majority state shareholding, Vista was ranked with 177, Shell with 138 -which fractured again for the first time in the year-, Pan American Energy (PAE) with 98 fractures, Tecpetrol with 83, Pluspetrol with 55, Chvrón with 24 and CAPEX with 2.

In the semi-annual ranking, after YPF (3,409) come Tecpetrol with 685 stages; Vista (619), PAE (575), Total (487), Pluspetrol (409); Pampa Energía (303), Phoenix (170), Chevron (151), Shell (138) and CAPEX (28).

Unconventional gas production was record in May
The production of unconventional gas in the deposits of the area of Dead cow reached a record level of 57.3 million cubic meters per day in May, 10.7% more than in the same month last year and 11.1% more than in April, according to the latest consolidated data from the Ministry of Energy .
Regarding the production of unconventional oil, there was an interannual growth of 26.2%, with 295.9 thousand barrels per day, which shows an increase of 0.2% compared to April.
Currently the production of shale gas from Dead cow it represents 42% of the total gas production in Argentina, while in the case of unconventional oil it reaches 46% of the total activity in the country.
