Online retailer: Amazon’s electric delivery vans are coming to Germany

Since last summer, more than 3,000 of Rivian’s delivery vans have been driving through the United States. Now the vehicles of Tesla’s competitor are also supposed to transport Amazon packages in Germany.

Amazon is bringing the electric delivery vans from Tesla competitor Rivian, specially developed for the world’s largest online retailer, to Germany. In the coming weeks, more than 300 vehicles will be on the road in Munich, Berlin and Düsseldorf, as both companies announced on Tuesday night.

Amazon wants to use up to 100,000 Rivian delivery vans by 2030. The retail giant also took a stake in the electric car company with the 2019 deal. Value corrections to the share following delays in the production of Rivian models have repeatedly impacted Amazon’s balance sheet in recent months. Rivian builds an electric pickup and a large SUV in the USA and is thus active in popular vehicle categories there in which Tesla has not previously offered anything.

In the US, Rivians delivery vans have been introduced into Amazon’s fleet since last summer. According to the company, more than 3,000 of the vehicles are in use there. A shorter and narrower version of the van has been developed for European cities, it said.
