According to the monthly survey carried out from Neighborhood Price Index (IBP) in 900 local businesses in twenty districts of the Buenos Aires suburbs, the value of the Basic Food Basket (CAB) for a family of two adults and two small children, in June it reached $102,266.27, according to a report by ISEPCI (Institute for Social, Economic and Citizen Policy Research). This meant an increase of 6.57% compared to the $95,965.51 that the same products cost in May. While so far this year the increase in the cost of food is close to 60%.

On the other hand, the Total Basic Basket (CBT) which, added to basic foods, a universe of products that are equally essential for daily life (health, education, transportation, clothing, fees, etc.) reached a value of $228,053.27 in June for the four-member household, that is, $14,050 more than in May. At the beginning of 2023, the same family needed $146,226.09 to cover the same expenses, so in the course of the last six months they had to add another 80,000 pesos to their income, so as not to fall below the poverty line. .

In another order of the report, ISEPCI economist Isaac Rudnik analyzed the price increase of Sergio Massa’s management at the head of the Ministry of Economy. In this sense, he indicated that in popular neighborhoods the Basic Food Basket in August of last year cost $50,411.85 and at the end of July, the same basket cost $102,266.27, which indicates that lWarehouse and greengrocery expenses rose more than 100% while in meat there is a decrease of 74%.
