Lufthansa returned to profitability surprisingly quickly. With a day of action, the Verdi union now wants to emphasize its demand for inflation compensation.
With a day of action, the Verdi union wants to put pressure on Lufthansa to immediately pay employees 3,000 euros in inflation compensation. The employees in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Düsseldorf are called to meetings for this Thursday, as the union announced on Wednesday. A Verdi spokesman said it was a break and leisure activity, so that no operational functions would be affected.
The union had already raised the demand months ago, when the unexpectedly quick return to the profit zone became apparent for the group. The company had initially rejected the demand and referred to later collective bargaining. According to the specifications of the federal government, it is possible to grant employees a tax and duty-free one-off payment of up to 3,000 euros until the end of 2024.
Verdi, on the other hand, wants to enforce the payment this summer. “Lufthansa has forgotten how to invest in the DNA of the group, in the staff,” said Verdi Group Manager Marvin Reschinsky. “Especially in times when the crane cannot offer its passengers the usual service, the motivation of the staff is the be-all and end-all.”
A company spokesman emphasized that within the framework of regular collective bargaining, one is always open to talks with all social partners to agree on an inflation premium. Of course, that also applies to Verdi. Lufthansa has already paid a corresponding bonus in some companies – always as part of a remuneration round.
