They promote negotiations in China so that Argentine Malbec has a zero tariff

This strategy gained momentum after the meeting held last September at Casa Rosada by President Alberto Fernández with the head of the Argentine-China Chamber, Sergio Spadone, and José Alberto Zuccardi, president of the Argentine Wine Corporation (Coviar), reported from this last entity.

The event held in China, in which information was provided and different wines were tasted, was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom) and the Chinese Communist Party, as well as chambers, associations, importers and distributors.

The meeting was held at the Argentine Embassy in Beijing, led by Ambassador Sabino Vaca Narvaja, and was attended by Leandro Compagnucci, head of the Foreign Ministry at the diplomatic headquarters, and the diplomatic team of the Argentine representation in that city.

In this regard, Compagnucci said that “the Chinese consumer increasingly recognizes Argentine wine and we have to work to support the growth of wine consumption in China.”

For a couple of months, a multisectoral team has been actively working to agree with the authorities of the People’s Republic of China to facilitate the entry of Malbec wine free of import duty, it was reported.

It is made up of the ministries of Foreign Relations, International Trade and Worship; Agriculture, Livestock and fishing; and Productive development; the National Viticulture Institute (INV), the Argentine-China Chambers of Manufacturers and Exporters of Musts, Wines of Argentina and Bulk Wines, and the Coviar.

The steps taken are part of the Strategic Wine Plan (PEVI) in its update to 2030, within the strategy to increase the volume and value of exports and destination markets.

According to its members, Argentine wine has a great opportunity to grow in the Chinese market: Argentina is among the top ten importing countries of wine to China and is gaining ground in digital media.

The event in Beijing was the first within the Zero Malbec Plan, which will continue during November and December with Chinese officials in the cities of Shanghai and Shenzhen, prior to the visit that the Argentine president is expected to make to China early next year.

The ten wineries present in Shanghai, Luigi Bosca, Casarena, Doña Paula, Familia Zuccardi, Finca El Origen, Grupo Avinea, La Rural, San Huberto, Susana Balbo Wines and Tapiz, highlighted the importance of continuing to generate training and promotion actions as well also the tariff reduction that allows generating greater competitiveness for market development.
