The mining industry reached 38,495 direct jobs in March, which represented a increase of 7.5% year-on-year, reported the Mining Secretary based on data collected in the Open Information System for the Community on Mining Activity (Siacam).

The sectors that grew the most this month were: lithium industry (3,957 jobs, with an interannual growth of 58%); services and activities related to mining (8,368 jobs, up 6.7% year-on-year); production of non-metallic minerals (3,496 positions, year-on-year increase of 4.9%).


The provinces that grew the most: jump (4,396 direct employees in mining, implying a growth of 40% year-on-year); Catamarca (2,305 direct jobs in mining, increasing 26% year-on-year); Jujuy (3,422 direct jobs, growing by 25.3% year-on-year); Cordova (2,250 direct jobs, growing by 6.4% year-on-year); Buenos Aires (4,335 direct jobs, growing by 4.9% year-on-year).
The sector has had 27 consecutive months with year-on-year increases in the number of jobs.
For its part, female mining employment increased in the provinces of Catamarca, Jujuy, Córdoba and Buenos Aires, reaching 4,269 jobs, growing by 23% year-on-year.
INDEC announced that in May 2023, the Mining Industrial Production Index (IPI minero) showed a 7.8% rise compared to the same month in 2022, while the accumulated January-May 2023 presented an increase of 10.7% compared to the same accumulated the previous year.
