In May, the synthetic indicator of construction activity (ISAC) fell for the second consecutive month: it contracted 2.9% compared to the same month in 2022. The accumulated figure for the first five months of the year presents a year-on-year drop of 1.9%, the INDEC indicated this Thursday, June 6.

In May, the seasonally adjusted series index lost 2.2% compared to the previous month and the trend-cycle series index rose 0.7% compared to the previous month.


Regarding construction inputs in May, the ones that rose the most monthly were: granite and calcareous mosaics (+21.3%); rest of the inputs which includes faucets, seamless steel tubes and construction glass, (+12%); plasterboard (+8.9%); construction paints (+2.5%); ceramic floors and coverings (+2.1%); finished concrete (+1.7%).
While there were drops in 15.1% in hollow bricks; 9.6% in asphalt; 8.7% in limes; 8.3% in round iron and steel for construction; 5.9% in plaster; and 1.5% in portland cement.
On the other hand, if the variations of the accumulated during the first five months of the year 2023 are analyzed as a whole in relation to the same period of the previous year, increases of 18.5% are observed in granite and calcareous mosaics; 14.1% in the rest of the inputs (includes taps, seamless steel tubes and glass for construction); 11.2% in finished concrete; 2.7% in plasterboard; and 1.6% in portland cement.
Meanwhile, decreases of 18.3% are observed in ceramic sanitary ware; 16.0% in hollow bricks; 15.8% in ceramic floors and coverings; 8.1% in limes; 5.9% in plaster; 4.4% in asphalt; 1.3% in construction paints; and 0.1% in round iron and steel for construction.
