The transport infrastructure in Germany is ailing. A symbol of this: the Rahmedetal Bridge in Lüdenscheid, which has since been blown up. In the star Gudrun Winner-Athens, 68, freight forwarder from Iserlohn and member of the “Logistics Hall of Fame”, talks about broken roads and bridges, poor rail networks and the permanent failure of politics.
Ms. Winner-Athens, after the demolition of the dilapidated Rahmedetalbrücke, the A45 will no longer be passable for years to come. What does that mean for a freight forwarder like you?
This is a very severe blow for the entire region and the economy as a whole – South Westphalia is the largest business location in NRW. The autobahn is the lifeblood of our infrastructure and therefore the only efficient connection to the south. The population suffers extremely, commuters are forced to accept longer travel times to work. In the transport industry, the entire logistics chain between shipper and recipient is out of sync.
