What happens if the current regulation is repealed?

In a few weeks, the reform or repeal of the Rental Law will be discussed at the request of the opposition. What do you propose and what will happen if the current regulation is repealed?

The tenants denounce that the opposition defends the real estate companies.

On August 28, at the request of the opposition, a special session will be held in Congress to discuss the modification of the Rental Law after the failed attempt to deal with the repeal of the rule last week.

“What do you think if we repeal today, now, all together?” Thus concluded the speech of the national deputy Hernan Lombardiof Together for Change, in a request for departure from the legislative regulation. He spoke of Law 27,551, known as Rental Lawwhich generates strong controversy in the real estate market.

The request was repealed and they requested a special session for the end of next month to address this issue, which is already an emergency due to the difficult housing situation in Argentina. And it is that, on the one hand, the tenant associations denounce that the breach of the law is almost absolute and that the State looks the other way.

For their part, the real estate companies consider that the rule is detrimental to the owners and request its repeal and replacement by a new law.

Rental Law: what happens if it is repealed

The concrete thing is that, in the event that it is decided to repeal it, the minority project agreed upon by the opposition proposes:

  • Two-year leases with the possibility of it being for one
  • semi-annual increases
  • Any index for the market to decide how much to increase

From the National Tenants Federation, they object that these requirements are in line with what real estate agents ask for and, they point out that, “concerned about the consequences that the modification may generate.” They warn that there is no doubt that the housing and social crisis will worsen.

And they anticipated that they will do everything in their power to “avoid this setback in rights conquered and that rented housing is a right”.
